Munster Senior Football League

St. Nicks 3-12 John Mitchells 1-7

8th February 2003

The Senior team collected their first brace of points in Division One of this years competition with an easy win over John Mitchells in Tralee last Saturday.

It was a very young team on duty with nine Under 21 stars and two more introduced during the match. Nicks made a very good start and with Robert Brosnan and Graham Callinan in control of midfield Mitchells were struggling to gain a foothold in the Nicks half. When they did the defense was in top form especially Eoin Sullivan, Shane O Donoghue and Paul Kingston. Liam Leahy kicked three great points from play, Robert Brosnan and Eoin McCarthy also scored before just on half time Noel O Donovan goaled from close range to leave it 1-7 to 0-2 in Nicks favour at the break.

Mitchells made a determined start to the second half and points from Ger Dennehy and Tim Cronin gave them encouragement, however Nicks soon settled again and once John Anderson knocked over a point quickly regained the intiative. Robert Brosnan goaled from a penalty after Noel O Donovan was fouled, Kevin Herlihy and Lenny Lynch also had points before victory was sealed when the marauding Donal Og O Donovan scored a third goal to ensure the two points on offer came back across the county bounds.
