21/05/05 --- It was a case of reverse fortunes
when our under 12 team travelled to play Valley rovers on Tuesday last.
Having defeated the same oposition at under 14 level on Sunday night
hopes wer ehig of a douybel but the Innishannon girls were in no mood
for defeat. Racing into an early lead they held this to the break turning
over 2-1 to no scaore ahead. on the resumption a much improved performance
saw us lay siege to the Vallery gaol and this was rewarded with two
Sienad O Halloran points befroe a goals from Alison Dowling cut he defecti
to two points. Failing to grab opportunitys in front of goal saw us
let Valleyrs off the hook before two goals ensured a Valley Rovers victory
after a tough clash. With just one game to go in the section it all
to play for as we face another tough encounter with Milford on Sunday
29th May.
16/05/05 --- Our Under 14 team got their league
campaign off to a good start with a vicotry over a Valley Rovers side
who two years earlier defeated us in the under 12 championship final.
This time out there was no mistaking the determination of our girls
at the Glen Field on Sunday evening. Three points from Denise Luby and
one from Sinead O Halloran saw us take the game to our opponents before
Valleys cut the deficit with a well taken goal. Upping the tempo Glen
Rovers kept their noses in front with a goal from Denise Luby and the
score remained unchanged to the half time whistle. On the resumption
a gaol from the outstanding Karen O Connelll was quickly followed with
points from O Connell, Luby and O Halloran before Valley Rovers struck
for two points before a Ciara O Keeffe goal sealed a good victory. Emma
Dunlea in goal had a superb game showing great alertness to the dangers
, while Clare Walsh, Alice Keating, Laure Egan and the excellent Karen
O Connell worked tiredlessly to ensure victory.
11/5/05 --- Just two points seperated the sides
after a cracking under 12 league game at the Glen Field on Friday last
when holders Ballinhassig paid us a visit. we got the best possible
start with a goal from the throw in from Nicole O Brien and the lead
was stretched with a Sinead O Halloran point. Ballinhassig responed
with two points before slack marking allowed them in for a goal that
was to prove crucial at the finish, a second point gave us a half time
advantage but afte the break Ballinhassig added two points to run out
winner on a day when we could easily have snatched it at the death.
Best wishes to Nicole O Brien who ahd to leave the field of play with
a nasty leg injury.
4/5/05 --- Our under 16 team got their league campaign
off to a good start recording a victory over visitors Slaibh Rua. The
heavy conditions made the going tough for our younger team but with
Denise Luby and Roisin Foley grabbing early points we set the pace of
the game. Slaibh Rua were back on level terms inside ten minutes but
a Denise Luby goal edged us back in front. Battling back Sliabh Rua
grabbed their second goal but again we regained the lead with good play
from Amy Murphy, Karen O Connell and Alice Keating to lead by a point
at the break. Aided by the wind in the second half our girls upped the
pace and with Densie Luby, Laura Harris and Zoe Buckley magnificent
in defence we regained control, goals from Roisin Foley, Ann Marie Horgan
Clare Walsh Amy Murphy and Alice Keating putting the result beyond doubt.
2/3/05 --- Another good performance from our under
12 team saw them record a victory over visitors Blackrock. Goals from
Maria Sheehan, Sinead o Halloran, Edel O Connell and Nicole O Brien
ensured Glen Rovers held the upper hand despite a spirited performance
from a sporting Blackrock side.
The younger camogie players from our camogie academy were
busy for the last two Saturdays under the guiding eye of Mary Sheehan
and Carol Bridgemans as they enjoyed games against Na Piarsaig and Douglas.
On both occasions the girls showed great talent and enjoying victories
in several of the games which were played in blitz form. Amongst those
that caught the eye were Hayley Murphy, Kelly Cronin, Sarah Bridgeman,
Clodagh Cummins, Cloe Noonan Eimear Sheehan, Eadoine Farrell, Nikita
Warren, Rebecca Wall and Sarah Hourigan while all players performed
with great enthusiasm which agurs well for the future.
26/4/05 --- Another good weekend for our under
12 A team who entertained Douglas at the Glen Field on Sunday last.
A goal from Maria Sheehan gave us the perfect start and with Sinead
OHalloran on target with three points and Nicole O'Brien adding one
Glen Rovers made all the running. Douglas worked hard and put our defence
under pressure but with goalkeeper Emma O Sullivan in superb form and
defenders Shauna O Sullivan, Ciara O Sullivan and Nicola Curran working
hard they found no way to the net. Before the interval Sinead O'Haloran
extended the lead with a goal to leave it 2-5 to no score at the break.
A livlier Douglas made all the running in the second half and despite
numerous attacks we failed to breach their defence which had tightened
up considerably. At the other end the inevitable happened when Douglas
grabbed a goal, however failing to panic, Glen Rovers had done enough
to run out winners.
21/4/05 --- Our under 12 team continued their good progress
in the league recording good victories over Eire Og and Inniscarra .
Eire Og as always proved strong opponents and it showed in the score
line as Glen Rovers led by the narrowest of margins at the interval
thanks to two splendid points from Sinead O Halloran. We continued to
maintain the pressure through the second half and the goals finally
came and while our defense came under severe pressure they coped well
with Aoibhinne Murphy, Kim Barry and Nicola O Sullivan excelling. It
was a similar story when last seasons champions visited the Glen Field.
Nicole O Brien shot us into an early led with a superb point from play
and with Sinead O Halloran adding a second we held an early lead. Despite
having plenty of posession we failed to convert several scoring chances
before Inniscarra struck for a goal to leave them ahead at the break.
Showing great fighting spirit the girls were back on level terms thanks
to Sinead O Halloran and with time almost up the same player converted
a close in free to help record a good victory, Edel O Connell, Sinead
Fahy and Jennifer Busteed impressing.
5/4/05 --- Our under 12 team have been promoted to the A section
of the league and they had a perfect start to their campaign as they
recorded a victory over Ballincollig at the Glen Field. Nicole O'Brien
showed her skill in front of goal opening the scoring with a magnificent
point which she quickly followed with a goal. Sinead O Halloran extended
the advantage adding two points before Nicole O Brien and Edel O connell
grabbed a gaol each as the Glen led 3-3 to no score at the interval.
Through the second half Glen kept up the pressure to run out convincing
winners 9-5 to no score. Ballincollig tried to the finish and must be
complimented for their spirited perfomance.
16/6/05 --- In an exciting game at the Glen Field our under
12 team had to give way to a strong Ballinhassig side who brought an
end to our unbeaten run. We made all the early ruining and led 1-1 to
no score but a lapse in concentration in defence allowed Ballinhaisss
grab a goal. With Sinead O halaoran adding a point we remained ahead
but Ballinhassig added two before the interval. On the resumption we
ahd plenty of chance in front of gaol bu tthye strong ballinhassig defence
held firm while up front they grabbed the all important points to edge
ahead and hold it to the finish despite strong pressure from the Glen
attack.
