Junior Football League 2003

JFL Final - November 2003

Juniors capture league title with gutsy display
St Nicks 1-11 Passage 1-8.

The Junior footballers finished off their season in sytle by winning the Division 3 league title with a great win over Passage in the Glen Field last Sunday. Having already assured themselves of promotion they were determined to complete the job and win the league outright and that they duly did with an excellent performance. Down to fourteen men after just five minutes we were four points behind early on and were unable to bridge that gap up to half time and trailed by 1-4 to 0-3. However they were a transformed team in the second half, Mark o Driscoll was solid in goal while in defence Jim Moynihan, now at full back was unbeatable as was Eamonn Gough at centre-back, while Michael Murphy and Ian Scott also impressed. Within five minutes of the restart we were back in the game, when David Ellis flicked Ken Lynams line ball to the net, and it set up a period of dominance and with Liam o Riordan and Paul Burke getting points we were in front. Passage found it hard to make progress and with gathering momentum we stretched our lead entering the closing stages, Liam Galvin and Kevin Murphy were now playing well and there was no way back for the visitors. Late in the game both sides had a man dismissed but it mattered little as in a welter of excitement we held on for a well deserved win.

After the game Joe Madden PRO of the City Division presented the cup to team captain Kevin Murphy. This was just reward for a very dedicated group of players who fulfilled all their fixtures without any difficulty all year, in total they played fifteen games and they record is won 14 lost 1, that speaks for itself, well done to all concerned and special word sof thanks to Selectors James Galvin and Tony o Neill who put in a huge effort all year.

JFL Semi-Final

St Nicks 1-10 Nemo Rangers 1-4. Having already secured promotion to Division 2 next year, this team will now contest the final of the league against either Passage or Carrigaline who play their semi-final this coming week-end. This was another excellent performance and the result was never really in doubt. Ronan o Brien got an early goal and with Paul Burke scoring some excellent points we were always in control. Mark o Driscoll, Eamonn Gough, Ian Scott, Ken Lynam and Kevin Murphy all impressed.

Junior Footballers Secure Promotion

St Nicks 0-13 Nemo Rangers 1-5. As a result of this victory the Juniors, under the guidance of Tony O Neill and James Galvin, will gain promotion to Division 2 for next year. They will also contest the semi-final of the league in the coming weeks.

They had good displays in this game from Mark O Driscoll, Liam O Riordan, Eamonn Gough, Kevin Murphy, Liam Galvin and Ken Lynan. Well done to all involved.
